Clients requesting hypnosis for pain relief are asked to provide a letter from a medical doctor to me stating that hypnosis is an acceptable approach in their case.

As a Practitioner of Simpson Protocol Foundational Birthing Hypnosis, I request permission to mail a letter to your care-provider. As hypnosis is designed to mask pain, and as pain is considered a highly relevant to the appropriate diagnosis of active labour, your care-providers should be aware that hypnosis is being used. To omit this information could result in care that is not the best for you and your baby. It has been my experience that all the Registered Midwives and Physicians have found the standard form letter helpful. Please contact me if you have any questions or comments in this regard.

Conditions Requiring Medical Treatment For their own safety, I do not accept anyone with Multiple Personality Disorder, schizophrenia or epilepsy, because I am not trained in handling serious mental health issues. In general, hypnosis encourages dissociation and anyone who has challenges remaining oriented to everyday reality is in better care with a mental health professional. The research for epilepsy and hypnosis is unclear; again, contact me if you have questions. I reserve the right to refer any clients to professional medical care.
